What is Hexahydrocannabinol?

cannabis plant is a source of a wide variety of chemicals, some of which have the potential to have beneficial, illuminating, soothing, and even curative effects on the body. Because of these discoveries, people are still finding new compounds, studying their effects, and researching ways to improve them.

Hexahydrocannabinol, or HHC, is a member of this new chemical group, also called semi-synthetic cannabinoids. Synthetic and semi-synthetic cannabinoids are sometimes confused with one another, although they are obtained through distinct processes and have distinctive physiological effects.

Let us discuss more about Hexahydrocannabinol (HHC) and its uses or benefits in humans.

What Is Hexahydrocannabinol (HHC)?

HHC is a cannabinoid found naturally in cannabis plants; however, because it is found in such minute quantities, that’s the main reason why the HHC found in consumer products is a semi-synthetic form. It is mainly created in the laboratory via a procedure that includes extracting HHC molecules from cannabis and mixing them with a catalyst.

Roger Adams, a scientist at the University of Illinois, produced hexahydrocannabinol in 1944 by hydrogenating Delta-9 THC. Through this chemical mechanism, THC is transformed into HHC.

The human body doesn’t fully absorb some naturally occurring cannabinoids like THC and CBD since they aren’t bioavailable. This means that the fraction of these cannabinoids that enter the circulation isn’t as high as it might be. Because of this, we do not get the advantages of the compound to their maximum extent.

When it comes to HHC, scientists think that the more of the product is metabolized, the more our endocannabinoid systems will be able to use the compound.

Uses and Benefits

Because of its structural similarities to THC, HHC may possess the same
anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and anti-emetic properties as THC. This
suggests that HHC can help handle things like:

Pain that persists over time, especially neuropathic pain

      Insomnia

      Appetite loss

Nausea, as well as throwing up

Spasms caused by multiple sclerosis (MS)

      Cancer and chemotherapy side effects

Possible Side Effects

Because HHC is an intoxicating molecule, it has the potential to have some of the same negative consequences as THC does. Symptoms such as nausea, dry mouth, red eyes, loss of memory, anxiety, elevated heart rate, coordination issues, and slower response times are included in this category. On the other hand, while HHC is not as psychoactive as THC, its adverse effects could not as evident.

However, HHC that is made synthetically may be associated with more severe adverse consequences. This is because specific chemicals/compounds are often used in industrial processes, and these chemicals can end up in the final product. Higher dosages of synthetic HHC may cause more severe adverse effects than natural cannabis. One may say that the HHC made in laboratories is very different from the HHC that plants produce.

Is Hexahydrocannabinol Just a Hype or an Actual Trend?

One of the reasons for Hexahydrocannabinol’s popularity is its unclear legal status. Since it’s a new trend, there are still a lot of questions about it. The effects are comparable to THC, but HHC is legal in most places, which is its main benefit today.

Although certain people use it for various medicinal purposes, there is not currently any study to support these usages. Also, many people use HHC products because they make them feel strong. So yes, we can say that HCC is not just hype; it actually works.
